Rainbow Baby - Maternity Session

I had the opportunity to photograph Desiree's maternity photos. During the planning phase, I learned that this is Desiree's rainbow baby.

A "rainbow baby" is a term used to describe a child born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or the loss of a baby during pregnancy or infancy. The concept of a rainbow baby comes from the idea that a rainbow appears after a storm, symbolizing hope and new beginnings following a period of darkness and sadness. In this context, the loss of a pregnancy or infant represents the storm, and the birth of a healthy baby afterward is seen as the rainbow—a source of joy and hope for the parents.

Desiree was able to incorporate the rainbow baby very subtly into her maternity session by using a rainbow wrap as well as rainbow colored hearts.

Rainbow babies are often celebrated and cherished by their parents and families, as they signify healing and the start of a new chapter in their lives. The term is used to acknowledge both the grief and the joy that parents may experience when going through the journey of pregnancy and childbirth after a loss. It's a way of honoring the memory of the baby who was lost while embracing the hope and happiness that a new life brings.

Desiree was glowing during her maternity session. I am proud of how far she has come, and I wish nothing but the best for her and her baby girl.
