Preparing for a maternity photo session is an exciting and memorable experience. Here is a list of items you might consider bringing to your maternity session to help capture beautiful moments and create lasting memories:

  • Maternity Wardrobe: Bring a variety of outfits that highlight your baby bump and make you feel comfortable and confident. Options might include maternity dresses, fitted tops, flowing skirts, and jeans with belly bands. Consider different styles, colors, and textures.

  • Accessories: Add some flair to your outfits with accessories like scarves, jewelry, and hats. These can help change up your look during the session.

  • Comfortable Shoes: You may be doing some walking or standing during the session, so bring comfortable shoes that complement your outfits. Consider flats, sandals, or low heels. It's definitely OK to wear the sneakers then switch out for the formal footwear when you get to the location

  • Undergarments: Make sure you have suitable undergarments that won't create visible lines under your clothing. Nude or skin-tone bras and underwear are often recommended. You can also consider going comando so no underwear lines appear in your photos

  • Props: If you have any props that hold special meaning or reflect your interests or hobbies, consider bringing them. Common props include baby shoes, ultrasound images, books, or sentimental items.

  • Ultrasound Images: If you have ultrasound images of your baby, you can incorporate them into some of the shots. These images can add a personal touch to your maternity photos.

  • Baby Clothing: If you know the gender of your baby and have some baby clothing or accessories, consider bringing them to pose with in some shots.

  • Blankets and Wraps: Soft blankets or wraps can be used as props or for added comfort during the shoot. For Carissa's session I used my car blanket as well as had a backdrop that we used to try and engage big brother.

  • Letterboards or Chalkboards: These can be used to share special messages or countdowns related to your pregnancy.

  • Belly Henna or Body Art: If you've had belly henna or body art done, this can be a beautiful addition to your maternity photos.

  • A Loved One: If you have a partner, children, or pets, consider bringing them along for family maternity photos. This can be a lovely way to capture the anticipation and excitement of your growing family.

  • Makeup and Hair Products: Bring makeup and hair touch-up products to ensure you look your best throughout the session.

  • Snacks and Water: Staying hydrated and having some snacks on hand can help keep your energy up during the photo shoot, especially if it's a longer session.

  • Comfort Items: Anything that makes you feel relaxed and at ease, such as a favorite music playlist or a comfy chair if the shoot is outdoors.

  • Positive Attitude: Last but not least, bring a positive and relaxed attitude. Maternity sessions are about capturing the joy and anticipation of this special time, so enjoy the experience and let your personality shine.

Before the session, it's a good idea to discuss your ideas and preferences with your photographer. They can provide guidance on what will work best for your particular shoot and location. Ultimately, the most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident, so you can truly enjoy the experience and the resulting photos.
