Picture Perfect Minis

Updated: Feb 10, 2022

I did it! I successfully completed my very first mini sessions. To say I was nervous was an understatement. Photographing several families back-to-back with only 15 minutes of shooting time is a bit daunting--especially the first time. Luckily, I was in an environment I felt very comfortable. I utilized the Main Studio space as Sacred Health for the mini sessions. Sabbath, the owner, was present during the set-up. Sabbath has a very calming way about her, and I instantly felt at ease.

The first up to kick off our mini sessions was Sacred Health's own Rachel. Rachel is a new addition in joining Sabbath and the rest of the Sacred Health family, Rachel is a Pause Certified Trauma-Informed Breathwork Facilitator. You can read more about her background and what her breath work groups will look like on the Sacred Health blog.

Rachel was very natural in front of the camera and had a strong vision of what she wanted for her photos. I love that she walked me through breathing exercises. Rachel and Sabbath will be partnering together for a Breath and Brew event at Sacred Health where participants can enjoy a cup of tea and have an introduction to breathwork. This is a freewill donation event that will be held monthly. Pre-registration is required due to the limited class size.

Next up was Tysin and his mom, April. You may remember April from her April is > Cancer photos I took last fall or the family photos from Summer 2020. Tysin has grown like a weed in the last year and a half though. He still has the same grin and bright blue eyes. Tysin was being a little pistol initially. He was going back and forth between being shy and hiding his face and being a wild man and not sitting still. I still got some great shots that reflect his personality.

At one point, I handed Tysin my camera and instructed him to take a photo of Mom to "test my light." Tysin immediately calmed down. He took several shots of April, the ceiling, his feet, etc. before handing me back the camera.

Tysin then went to April, and I was able to capture some tender moments between a mom and her baby. With April's cancer diagnosis within the last year and an autoimmune disorder, photos with her children mean so much to their family

Next up was Lacie and her five-year-old daughter, Aubrielle. Lacie is a single mom, and I know how valuable these photos are to her. A selfie with your child is just not the same as having someone else operating the camera.

Aubrielle brought along ribbons and some favorite loveys for the photos. Lacie was nervous that Aubrielle was going to be a 'sour-puss' for the photos, but she was quite the opposite! There was so much laughing, dancing, and ribbon twirling. Lacie and Aubrielle even showed me the rainbow breathing method.

I especially loved the vibrant colors that this mother-daughter duo wore for their photos. I love the way they brightened up our cold and dreary January afternoon.

I had a great time shooting these mini sessions and I'm looking forward to teaming up with Sacred Health again in the very near future.
