Martha's House of Hope - Lifestyle Session

Before I became a photographer, before I was a mom of four, I worked in the social services field. I worked a variety of different jobs in the public and private sectors working with adolescents and families in different environments. I loved the work and connecting with the families. I've toyed around with the idea on how to bridge my passion for photography with my desire to connect with families. I have found the balance by photographing the moms and children at Martha's House of Hope in Ames, Iowa.

I was introduced to Martha's House of Hope from my good friend, Ashley. Ashley has been working as the Family Life Specialist for the organization. Ashley and I chatted about Martha's House and she talked to me about the mission and I knew I needed to photograph these moms and their babies.

Martha's House is a program for pregnant adult woman. The expecting mother can enter the residential housing program at any point during her pregnancy and stay until the baby's first birthday. While in the program, the mothers are provided with resources on being self-sufficient including housing and childcare resources. The women attend counseling sessions as needed and find employment.

Martha's House is entirely donation and volunteer based. The organization does not receive any federal grant money. If this mission resonates with you, I'd encourage you to donate your time or financial gift to help these moms and children.

I truly believe that all families deserve to have beautiful photos. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet Natasha and her sweet boy, Hasbanious and to take a snapshot in time for them. I look forward to taking photos for the other mothers that are in the program as well.
