Emotive Nurturing Mini Sessions

Motherhood has so many ups and downs. It's such a joyous time. When you give birth, you are literally changing everything about yourself from the placement of your organs to adding another name to your resume.

I want to photograph the rawness of motherhood. The definition of nurturing is as follows: care for and encourage the growth or development of. Nurturing can occur in several different ways. Gary Chapman wrote a book called The 5 Love Languages. In the book Chapman outlines five different ways people can demonstrate their love to a partner or a child. In summary, the 5 love languages are:

  • Words of Affirmation

  • Quality Time

  • Physical Touch

  • Acts of Service

  • Receiving Gifts

When a mother is holding her children and nurturing that child with her body, she is hitting so many of those love languages. This is such a powerful connection between a mother and her child. She may be whispering how much she loves her baby (words of affirmation), spending uninterrupted time together (quality time), physical touch (cradling the child and offering gentle touches), acts of service (providing milk to the child).

Whether you are breastfeeding a four-year-old or bottle feeding a newborn, I want you to understand that you are a great mom and you're doing an unbelievable job. Let's document this phase of life, because as cliche as it sounds, it really does go so quickly.

The Emotive Nurturing Mini Sessions will take place at Sacred Health. The first session will begin at 11 AM and we'll wrap up by 3 PM. Sacred Health hosts a Lactation and Feeding Support Group that will run concurrently as the Emotive Nurturing Mini Sessions. Lactation support is an excellent opportunity to get hands on help on all things infant feeding. It's also a good way to get out of the house and meet other women with similar-aged children. I know from firsthand experience how lonely and isolating the newborn stage can be.

Although the Lactation Support Group will be occurring at the same time as the mini sessions, we will be in a private group. This will give you the opportunity to fully focus on your child. Additionally, if you have older children, they are welcome to attend. I will have toys available for them to play with. This is your opportunity to interact and nurture your child in the way you see fit. If you chose to breastfeed during your session, you decide if those images can be posted online.

I look forward to meeting you and your little one and documenting this stage of life for you. One of my biggest regrets was not getting breastfeeding pictures with all four of my boys.
