Dominic - Dual Athlete's Senior Photos

The senior year of high school is full of many 'lasts.' Your last homecoming as a student, your last wrestling duel, and for some seniors it's their last opportunity for family photos for a few years. When Dominic's mom, Tanya, inquired about senior photos for Dominic, I knew we'd be a great fit. Dominic is an athlete and wanted to incorporate his sports (football and wrestling) into his senior photos.

We started Dominic's session outdoors. He had brought several changes of clothes, but the blue suit that he wore first was my absolute favorite look. I used a combination of natural light and strobes for his session depending on the location, lighting, and the look I was going for.

Des Moines, Iowa senior photography - teenage boy wears a white t-shitr and a blue suit adjusts his watch while looking away.

Dominic is the oldest in his family. His younger brother, is in the 5th grade, and is following in his footsteps in sports. It was very apparent how much parents love and support their boys. I was glad that the family agreed to jump in a few photos, because once Dominic is away at college studying business, they might not have the opportunity to spend weekends all together.

After getting photos in the wooden area, Dominic changed clothes, and we moved to the water for some shots.

Dominic braved the rocky bath down to the sand/rock bar with me for some shots skipping rocks. The simple black tee and the jeans is such a statement piece for high school seniors. As a boy mom, I am a huge fan of this look because I know that it will never go out of style. In 8 years when Dominic's younger brother is getting his senior photos taken, he could wear the same black tee and jeans.

More outfit changes and another spot in the wooded area. The location we photographed Dominic at has a huge expanse of wooded area and water. It even has this unique driftwood tree. Tanya requested an additional shot of her and her boys in this outfit. I was amazed at how well polite and respectful Dominic and George were. It was a long day, but neither of them complained at all and were agreeable to all the poses I suggested.

We drove on down to the High School and did some photos at Mineart Field. Dominic needed to make arrangements with the coach to allow for us to be there during non-school hours. Luckily. the coach gave us the OK. I used a variety of lighting techniques for these series of images from dramatically lit to natural light. We ended Dominic's session in the wrestling room. As an athlete, Dominic spends countless hours on the football field and in the wrestling room training. Sports have played a huge role in his life, so it was really important that we incorporate those in his session.

Dominic had the idea to end our photo session with his football and helmet on the wrestling mat to signify being a dual athlete. I love the finished look! in the fall of 2025, Dominic will be headed to Iowa State Uniersity to wrestle and study Business.
