Cruella Deville Cosplay
I have always loved dressing up and being theatrical. Last Halloween I bought a Cruella Deville costume but never had the opportunity to wear it. Aside from Ursula, Cruella is the best Disney villain. I will die on that hill. So, this year, I decided to go all out and do some Cruella pics also.
Cruella de Vil is known for her extravagant fashion sense, featuring a black and white color scheme, a long fur coat, and a distinctive two-toned hairstyle. My costume didn't come with a long fur coat, but rather, a shorter shrug version and red gloves and the iconic long cigarette that was present in the earlier movies.
Cruella is most infamous for her desire to create a fur coat made from the fur of Dalmatian puppies, making her a particularly cruel and villainous character. I had thought about shaving down my own pup to expose his spots but opted not to include him in the photos. It's difficult enough to be the model, while giving my non-photographer husband directions on the camera. Throwing in a massive two-year-old pup that just wants his Mama's attention sounds like a stressful day.
I had a blast trying to capture Cruella's demeanor. I waved my faux cigarette around and offered my husband a dollar amount for the puppies, all while calling him "Darling." He attempted to give me posing directions, such as 'look down and scowl.' I much preferred the evil laugh though, for obvious reasons.
For this set, I opted to use a red fur rug, my black loveseat, and a black sequined backdrop. I also wanted to go for a bit moodier vibe for this session. I achieved this by properly exposing the shot with my lighting but playing around with the shadows and contrast.
In addition to her obsession with fur, Cruella is characterized by her extravagant and flamboyant personality, her ruthless pursuit of her goals, and her complete lack of empathy for others, including the well-being of animals. Her name is a play on the words "cruel" and "devil," which reflects her villainous nature. I paired my Cruella ensemble with my faux leather pants as another indicator of Cruella's lack of empathy for the well-being of animals and viewing them as disposable. I loved this session and look forward to more cosplaying options. Who should I dress up as next?
